GTA - Finland

EA SCOUT the last line of defense for buying on Steam's Early Access
Taking place in Finland in 1994 Last Drop is a surreal goof around adventure type game. While the simplistic visuals are not meant to blow anyone away, and the lack of controller support for a 3D game like this really hurts it, there is something charming about how rustic and unpolished it is. Your character wakes up in a small apartment complex and receives a phone call from a friend asking for some help. Right from the start, the pre-rendered cutscenes are absolutely hilarious - upon picking up the phone, within a few seconds the phone disappears, and our main character looks as though he's holding onto nothing.

Some could argue that this was done intentionally to add to the rustic unfinished charm of a game that came out in the mid 1990s, but whether it was intentional or not, doesn't make the game look any less stupid.

You have an inventory which is very basic. As you progress, you will acquire maps that you can hold onto which will aid you in finding out where to go - there were no smartphones in 1994. I can appreciate this, though It would have been nice if there was at least a compass that pointed out which direction was North, South, East, Or West. Since the hand drawn maps you are given are not very detailed, and many of the buildings look the same.
There was also a part in the game where a QR code with a link to the developer's Discord appears, which felt out of place for a game that was supposed to be set in 1994. Although the QR code was invented in 1994, Discord sure as hell was not.

At this point in development, the main story as aa whole hasn't got much - it is primarily just a guy who goes around getting into fights and drinking beer.

Last Drop is the equivalent of a person who thinks they can coast through life by putting all of their points into charisma. Sure the novelty of a rustic looking game set in a nordic country in the mid 1990s may be fun for a laugh or two, but it doesn’t feel as though it fully commits to anything. If it wanted to be a parody game like Postal, it’s not funny enough neither intentionally, nor unintentionally. If it wants to be a nostalgic throwback then it needs more pizzazz. If it wants to be a fun simulation game, then it needs more stuff to do.

I can't bring myself to hate Last Drop - it is by no means a piece of unplayable garbage, but it doesn't do anything that makes me feel like I should play it for a prolonged period of time. It is still only in Early Access, so there is still time for the developers to iron out some of these issues. The absurdism aspect may peak some gamers' interests, but whether this game is worth $14 or not depends entirely on your tastes.
